THEATRICAL MATROUZ From the oral tradition of the
Halqa to contemporary theatre
"The action
takes place in Marocco around the typical
character Mchouga, the
mad of Mellah, the jester of Maghreb adopted by
the three communities jew, moslem, christian and
witness to their brak-up in the fifties under the
French Protectorate. The french adaptation of the
spectacle is punctuated by the play on languages,
music, dance...leading the audience into the maze
of memory, to the discovery of Mchouga, a person
of many faces, a legendary beggar-jester who
laughts to tears and weeps to laughter."
